After releasing her new Seasons EP last month and its powerful depiction of relationships, Leicester bred singer Mahalia returns with a visual for its lead track “Surprise Me“.
Considered as a key point in the story, Mahalia realizes the man she’s with isn’t as committed to making a long distance relationship work, nor is he willing to meet her halfway. As a standout from the release, it is only fair it gets treated with a video, courtesy of Andre Muir.
The accompanying visual, shot in New York City, reflects on the pains of maintaining a long distance relationship as Mahalia slowly feels her beau pulling away, even when they’re in very close proximity. The video also includes a beautiful spoken word intro that acts as a summarised narrative.
Mahalia explains: “This project is super special to me. I wanted to make something that felt relevant to where I’m at in my life right now. I feel like no relationship is ever simple. It has its ups and downs. As a couple, you move through the seasons of your relationship together – each season having a different purpose.”
