On Thursday morning, the nominations for the 2019 Golden Globes have been revealed. The nominees have been announced by Terry Crews, Danai Gurira, Leslie Mann and Christian Slater live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Vice leads with six nominations while The Favourite, Green Book and A Star Is Born have received five nominees each. The Assassination of Gianni Versace has earned four Golden Globe nominees.
On the film side, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Ben is Back, First Reformed, Hereditary, Mary Queen of Scots, On the Basis of Sex, Private Life, The Rider and Widows have been surprisingly shut out, as well as the musicals Paddington 2 and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.
Psychological horror A Quiet Place has merely received one nomination for best score, along with Eighth Grade. Shockingly no soundtracks from Mary Poppins Returns have been nominated in the best song category.
Despite Natalie Portman having accused the Hollywood Foreign Press for its “lack of female director nominees” last year, for the 2019 Golden Globes no women have earned a nominee for top film director once again.
The Spanish film Roma has also been left out of the best drama film category. It was supposedly ineligible for that category as it only honours English-language films.
As for the television side, American Horror Story, Black-ish, Better Call Saul, Little Drummer Girl, Maniac, Orange is the New Black, Silicon Valley, This Is Us, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Yellowstone have been left out, along with House of Cards.
The nomination list of 2019 certainly took many off guard with the shocking results. However, we still look forward to finding out the winners next year.
The 76th Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on January 6, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and air on NBC. The hosts are Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh while the ceremony will be produced by Dick Clark Productions.
