Yesterday, Nicolas Ghesquière, closed the season for Louis Vuitton after four weeks on the road of fashion. For the last show of this year’s exciting Paris Fashion Week the designer, who has been the creative director for the women’s collection since 2013, placed the catwalk inside the Louvre’s Cour Carrée, recreating a copy of the Centre Pompidou building.
“In fashion we’re excited to discover shapes we don’t know. New things, or things that seem new at the time, are sometimes controversial. It takes time to understand things and I love that idea. I love the fact that this creation was so criticised at the time but became so important for culture. The eyes get used to it and we change and evolve”. Ghesquière said, referring to the Centre Pompidou.

The Louis Vuitton collection was inspired by the 1980s aesthetic, with ruffled ra-ra skirts and drop-waisted puffball dresses, feminine, prairie-style blouses, amped-up quilted leather accents, and chequerboard motifs all featuring heavily throughout. The mood was further amplified through the models’ make-up, with heavy brows and dark red lipstick on the line-up this season.
Ghesquière also said that the show was about “self-expression“, with cultural connections. “It’s a look where every community has different signs of recognition. And that can be controversial because when you see codes you don’t understand, you push yourself”.
Notable guests in attendance included Chlöe Grace Moretz, Willow and Jaden Smith, Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander and Sienna Miller.
