If you already though that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s feline musical was weird, be prepared to freak out with the live action adaptation of Cats.
On Thursday, Universal revealed the first trailer for the upcoming musical film and adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats. Directed by The Miserables’ Oscar-winner Tom Hooper, its cast include many wonderful artists like James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba and Rebel Wilson, among others.
However, the film trailer has left people very confused and critics have been sharing their opinions all over the Internet. There are many different comments about it, but we can assure you that almost none of them are good reviews.
Showbiz reporter Laura Kramer tweeted, “Like… Why did they do that to Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson? She deserves better”.
“Oof, this cast is so haphazard”, commented film/TV journalist Candice Frederick. “I forgot Jason Derulo was in this too… I really wish I saw the Broadway show because I can’t make heads or tails of what is even going on in this trailer.”
Even though a pre-trailer had been released before Thursday showing how actors had been transformed thanks to CGI designs, their looks are still very creepy and disturbing to some people. Like, why do they have human breasts? Why are they so small?
The film will be released on December and, as The New York Times has noted, “we have five months to get used to it”. Watch the trailer for Cats below.
