US singer/songwriter and dancer Jason Derulo has raised the temperature a little bit more by releasing a new summer hit titled “Too Hot”.
Earlier this summer, Derulo dropped a summer party track featuring Puerto Rican Farruko titled “Mamacita”. “The song came from such an honest place, I wasn’t trying to make a hit or catch any trends,” Derulo told Billboard after the song debuted at number 1 spot on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart.
“I’m from Miami so Latin influence has been very prevalent in my life and that’s where the idea of the song came from and the partnership with Farruko,” he added.
Now, the artist continues in the same vein with “Too Hot”, keeping the Latin vibes through his island-style beats. “Too Hot” is a dancehall, funky track leaded by the sound of acoustic guitars and latin-style beats.
“It’s summertime and you know it’s too hot for clothes” Derulo croons, accompanied by a ‘tropicalish’ background that kind of reminds to 90’s Reggae/Dancehall single “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus & Pliers.
This song has been sampled many other times before by artists like Pitbull for his track “El Taxi”, Omarion for his “Post To Be” and French Montana for “Freaks”.
Derulo said he was working to release a lot of new songs after he dropped his 2017 banger “Swalla” featuring Nicki Minaj.
“I’ve got so much s**t. I feel like this album is my greatest work thus far. It shows a totally different side people don’t know yet – a very vulnerable side. Very vulnerable but also very vocal-centric music as well, which people haven’t gotten a huge taste of yet”, he told Rolling Stone during an interview.
Hopefully, a lot of other new songs will follow his new bop so we can keep dancing to his ‘non-stop party’ vibes all summer long. Derulo will also make his debut into the big screen with the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats alongside Taylor Swift, James Corden and Jennifer Hudson.
