Kurt Cobain’s artwork is wearable since yesterday. Live Nation Merchandise and The End of Music, LLC (the company that owns Cobain’s publicity rights) have teamed up to release a new clothing collection to commemorate the iconic rock star.
‘Kurt Was Here’ features hand-written journal entries, paintings and drawings of the Nirvana frontman. Every piece has been curated and designed under Frances Bean Cobain’s creative direction, Kurt’s daughter, who is the manager of her father’s business entity now.
The collection is available at Selfridges UK, Barneys NY and KurtCobainShop.com and each item includes a limited-edition book that contains Cobain’s original artwork, which will be on sale later this year.
Although Cobain’s image and music has been already used for merchandise products, ‘Kurt Was Here’ is the first official collection that uses his original artwork for clothing items.
“We believe that the importance of art is exceedingly potent in today’s social and political climate and that it is the right time to share this collection of Kurt’s work with artists, collectors and fans, allowing them to experience Kurt’s legacy in a new way, and collectively celebrate his lasting impact on the world,” a Live Nation’s rep told Rolling Stone via email about the collection.
Following Cobain’s suicide at the young age of 27, the new clothing collection has come out on the heels of Cobain’s 25th anniversary of his death and a portion of sales will be donated to The Jed Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on suicide prevention among teenagers and young adults.
