Anya Taylor-Joy Captivates In Upcoming Film ‘Last Night In Soho’ | Film News

Anya Taylor-Joy has the looks of a model and the brains of a genius. Formerly scouted in her teens by Storm Management, the bright eyed starlet then signed with an acting agent. A few years later and Anya has taken the world by storm for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit, Split and Emma.

Seeing this young actress perfect her technique and grow strength for strength is a true blessing. One of my favourites was her iconic role as Illyana, a Russian mutant with powers in The New Mutants which also starred Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga.

Her new adventure includes Anya taking on the role of Sandy in Edgar Wright’s film Last Night In Soho. Due to the latest photo not being shot in demure lighting it adds a sense of mystery to what we collectively know so far about the plot.

This 1960’s part plot may not feature the bright and swirling colours that we are typically used to of that era. Looking into this further it is fascinating especially as one of the leads Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) is playing a girl studying fashion design.

The synopsis of the plot shares with us that “a young girl, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960’s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. The 1960’s however is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences“.

Edgar Wright, the director behind Last Night In Soho shares that, “the idea for the movie is the result of 25 years of living and working in Soho. I spent so much time looking at the architecture, thinking, ‘What have these walls seen?’ And walking the streets late at night. Soho’s become a lot more gentrified, but it still has that darkness just under the surface. It’s one of those places where you only need to stand still for 60 seconds for something strange or magical or weird or dark to happen”.

Anya and Thomasin will be joined on set by castmates Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Terence Stamp (Superman), Synnove Karlsen (Clique), Rita Tushingham (The Pale Horse), Connor Calland (We Hunt Together and ‘Best Newcomer’ nominee at the Iside Soap Awards 2020), Kassius Nelson (Hollyoaks) and twins James and Oliver Phelps, who played the iconic characters of Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.

Last Night In Soho also stars the late Dame Diana Rigg (Game Of Thrones) and Margaret Nolan (Carry On) of which she played a variety of characters such as Mrs. Tucker in Carry On Matron.

The release date for Last Night In Soho has been pushed back to April 23, although this may be a while off, you can hold your excitement and watch some of Edgar Wright’s classics such as Shaun Of The Dead, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, The World’s End or Baby Driver.
