When Netflix started to produce their own TV programs such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, it seemed inevitable that feature length films would soon make their debut on the media streaming site. Just days ago, it was announced that the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel would be released exclusively to Netflix on the same day as its cinematic release, which of course resulted in uproar from studios and theatres.
Fueling this dispute, it has just been reported that Adam Sandler will star in FOUR films exclusive to Netflix customers in fifty countries. Not only featured in the films, the comedy icon will also produce them under his production company Happy Madison. Despite the fact that several recent features starring Sandler were fairly unsuccessful at the box office such as Blended and Jack and Jill, he still remains an iconic figure in comedy and his huge fan base are sure to bring in lots of new customers for Netflix.
There is no telling at this point what the features will entail, but one can only hope they meet the quality of his past films such as The Waterboy and Billy Madison. I also think this would be a great opportunity for Sandler to showcase some of his other acting abilities aside from comedy. Take for example Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love where he illustrated his range of acting goes way beyond the confines of comedy. Sandler will be starring in Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children next month where he plays a more serious role than usual, so make sure to check it out!
