Variety made the news official this Monday, April 12: Actress Lucy Liu will join the cast of the highly anticipated movie Shazam 2.
After the announced casting of actress Helen Mirren as Hespera, it is now time for Lucy Liu, best known for the films Kill Bill and Charlie’s Angels, to officially join the cast of this sequel as the goddess Kalypso.
Just like the character of Hespera, she has no equivalent in the comic books. However, we know that they are two sisters, daughters of the god Atlas.
David F. Sandberg returns to direct the sequel, with a script by Henry Gayden, based on the DC character created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. The sequel will follow the story of teenager Billy Batson who, by reciting the magic word “Shazam!”, morphs into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam.
With Zachary Levi as the eponymous hero Shazam and Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Warner Bros. didn’t need to add much to attract the audience. Not to mention the generosity of the DC Cinematic Universe, which has chosen a delightful duo to play two badass antagonists.
Since Lucy Liu is particularly popular with film and pop culture fans, the news has made the web happy and Shazam 2 director David F. Sandberg shared a hilarious post on his Instagram to express his excitement.
For the moment, Shazam 2, officially titled Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is expected to be released on June 2, 2023 in the US.
