London-based punk duo, Nova Twins, have teamed up with the art-rock trio Dream Wife for a remix of their track “Bullet”. The track is taken from their 2020 album debut album Who Are The Girls?
This new collaboration is Nova Twins’ latest joint effort, following their recent remix release of their track “Undertaker” with Fever 333.
The two girls explained the meaning behind “Bullet”: “It’s a kickback against the harassment and day-to-day social pressures that women have to endure. We wanted a song that makes women feel powerful, that they can say, do and wear what they want without judgment or scrutiny.
Unrealistic beauty ideals and objectification have formed a toxic and hypercritical environment for women. “Bullet” is a call to arms for anyone anywhere to stand up against these social norms and say enough is enough.”
Nova Twins revealed that Dream Wife contacted them and they immediately agreed thinking that the band was perfect to help them to “elevate this message“. Dream Wife is a punk feminist pop-punk band and seems indeed the perfect trio to be associated with for this remix.
About Dream Wife, Nova Twins added “We also love their badass tunes and love to see them succeed time after time, they’re killing it.”
And Dream Wife also shared something about the song and Nova Twins “Nova Twins’ unchained power as a live unit has always taken our breath away. We love those rockers, what they stand for and how they rip it up. ‘Bullet’ as a track boldly asserts their vibe of self-empowerment, a theme that really crossed over with Dream Wife’s beliefs and ethos as a band.”
The remix is quite different from the original one, except for the chorus, but the punk and feminist energies are still here. Dream Wife style mixes perfectly with Nova Twin and we couldn’t have dreamed better for this collaboration.
Nova Twins also took advantage of the opportunity in order to announce their next UK and Europe tour that will happen in 2022. They will also be joining Enter Shikari on their upcoming UK tour.
Earlier this year, Nova Twins curated a compilation to spotlight underrepresented POC artists from the rock and alternative scene, Voices For The Unheard. They also became patrons for the Music Venue Trust on International Women’s Day.
