Virginia-born and Philadelphia-based artist Dead Professional has just released a new slow-build track “Ashes Are Ashes” and it will be everyone’s favorite.
Matt Barrick, who worked on the Walkmen’s production, contributes to the polished, moody production that envelops the slow-burning americana ache in gritty synths and shimmering guitars.
If you are one of those people who enjoys a uniqe take on the instrumentation side this track will amuse you. It’s hard to keep the interest with a slow-build track these days however Dead Professional handles this situation really well.
With its smart and amusing instrumentation element choices and deep vocals “Ashes Are Ashes” tops the list.
The Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Dead Professional, who was born in Virginia, will make a comeback in 2023 after a protracted absence during which a spinal cord injury nearly cost him his singing voice and guitar playing skills.
The entire ordeal inspired a renewed resolve to not only put music back in the spotlight but also to turn up the heat, pushing songwriting and production beyond the cerebral minimalism of earlier work into new emotional and sonic territory.
Prior to the hiatus, Dead Professional had developed a growing following on the East Coast, especially in the Washington, DC area.
Evolving from stripped-down shows with just vocals, guitar and drum machine into a full band setup, DP earned opening slots with among others, Ryan Adams, Kurt Vile and Lucy Dacus.
