Ingrid And The Ministers, a psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll band from New Zealand, have released their latest single “Bowie” on March 31. The single comes ahead of their highly anticipated album, Boofhead, set to be released on April 21.
“Bowie” captures the bittersweet moments before the end of a relationship, using the analogy of a bed and a grave to emphasize that the relationship has no future and is being “put to rest.”
Ingrid and the Ministers, based in Wellington, New Zealand, were formed in 2018 by French-born Ingrid, who moved to Wellington as a teenager. The band consists of Ingrid on vocals, James Morgan on lead and rhythm guitar, Scott Maynard on bass, and Kim Andrews on drums. Their sound is a unique blend of vigorous raw emotion and humble greatness, creating an innovative and captivating musical experience.
“Bowie” is described by Ingrid as their “most indie-rock track,” featuring a steady beat and contemplative lyrics reflecting on the last moments of a relationship. The band has previously released a series of music videos showcasing their whimsical slapstick style, including the punk-infused single “Boofhead,” which tackled the housing crisis in 2022.
Their debut album, Kill the Sights, released in 2020, was recorded in a DIY fashion in their former guitarist’s garage. The album featured the single “Pepper & Sand,” which gained attention when it was used in an episode of YouTuber Matt Orchard’s Crime and Society series. “Kill the Sights” captured the band’s signature live sound and showcased their innovative expression.
Ingrid and the Ministers are known for their energetic stage performances, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. With the release of “Bowie” and the upcoming album Boofhead, fans can look forward to even more creativity from this talented group.
