The artist known as Yamina, or by her stage name Sunkissed Child, introduced her audience to a refreshing Lo-fi summer track titled “Palate Cleanser” on July 17, 2023.
The delightful track artfully integrates jazz, alt-pop, and R&B influences, painting the vivid picture of a charming summer romance. Uniquely, “Palate Cleanser” swings between French and English lyrics, exuding a sense of playful flirtation and whimsy.
For this venture, Sunkissed Child collaborated with guitarist and producer Pavel Telica, a known member of the Jazz-Hip-Hop ensemble Doctor Gosso & The Samplers.
Telica, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist acclaimed for his fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music genres, brought a rich harmony, jazzy undertones, and alluring orchestration to the song. The result was a delightful anthem that celebrates the artist’s “single era”.
Sunkissed Child, a Lebanese talent based in Leeds and London, masterfully blends her Neo-soul, R&B, Hip-Hop influences, and Middle Eastern background to weave her life narrative through a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and genres.
Her unique style has gained attention from several radio stations, earning airtime with Jamz Supernova on Selector Radio, Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6, and Emily Pilbeam on BBC Introducing: West Yorkshire.
A strong believer in collaborative work, Sunkissed Child frequently partners with various artists and groups, such as Yusuf Yellow and The Energy Collective.
Alongside her dedicated band, she has graced the stage at esteemed venues like the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds and the Ninety One Living Room in London. As one of the most promising Arab artists of the year, her future endeavors are eagerly anticipated.
