The prestigious Ivor Novello Awards have unveiled their 2024 nominees, celebrating the best of British and Irish songwriting and composing talent. Among the contenders for the coveted prizes are familiar names and rising stars in the music scene.
Leading the pack with multiple nominations are singer-songwriter Raye and pop sensation Harry Styles. Raye’s debut album, My 21st Century Blues, continues its success, nominated for the esteemed best album award. This comes after her record-breaking win of six BRIT Awards earlier this year.
“An Ivor nomination is an incredible honor,” Raye expressed, reflecting on her whirlwind year of achievements.
Harry Styles, whose hit As It Was was last year’s winner for PRS for Music Most Performed Work, returns with another nod in the same category. The star-studded list also includes Irish singer CMAT’s Crazymad, For Me, jazz musician Yussef Dayes’ Black Classical Music, Irish folk group Lankum’s False Lankum, and Sampha’s second album Lahai.
In the best song musically and lyrically category, Sampha and Yussef Dayes receive their second nomination for co-writing Spirit 2.0, alongside Blur’s The Narcissist, Tom Odell’s Black Friday, and Victoria Canal’s Black Swan. This diverse lineup showcases the depth and variety of musical talent recognized by The Ivors.
Chairman of The Ivors Academy, Tom Gray, highlighted the breadth of talent among the nominees, stating, “From established voices to rising stars, this year’s list reflects an ever-evolving musical landscape.”
The nominees span across categories like rising star, best television soundtrack, best original video game score, and best original film score, highlighting the diverse avenues of musical creativity.
Roberto Neri, Chief Executive of The Ivors Academy, extended congratulations to the nominees, emphasizing the significance of recognition by peers, stating, “It is this recognition by your peers that makes an Ivor Novello Award so meaningful.”
With 77 individual British and Irish songwriters and composers receiving nominations, this year’s Ivor Novello Awards promise to be a celebration of exceptional talent. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on May 23 at Grosvenor House in London.
