The Hague-based indie duo Silver Lake is back with a new single, “Flowers Grow In The Saddest Parts” and an upcoming album that continues to explore their signature sound, blending melancholic art-pop with a nostalgic, 1960s-inspired folk-pop vibe.
After spending a year writing, recording, and refining their music, the duo has created a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, and showcasing their musical growth through the subtle updates to their musical style.
Comprising Marleen Hoebe and Jesse Koch, Silver Lake’s music is characterised by intimate vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. Marleen’s light, gentle voice captures a sense of vulnerability and emotional depth, Portraying relatable moments such as finding moments of peace, sharing personal challenges with loved ones, and navigating the complexities of relationships.
Their songs often explore the tension between connection and individuality, addressing personal struggles and the impact of supporting others through difficult times.
Since their debut single “Under The Silver Lake” in early 2022, Silver Lake has gained recognition across the Netherlands, with their music frequently played on prominent stations such as NPO Radio2 and 3FM. They have performed at several prestigious festivals, including Grasnapolsky, Parkpop, Tuckerville, and Hit The City, and have opened for artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Danny Vera, Novastar, and Thomas Dybdahl.
In addition, their performances during the spring tour of the Hague-based band Son Mieux helped further grow their presence in the Dutch music scene.
Silver Lake’s musical journey began with the duo’s deep appreciation for 60s and 70s music. For a long time, the two focused on music from this era, but they have also drawn inspiration from contemporary artists like Lana Del Rey, Warhaus, Alexandra Savior, and The Last Shadow Puppets.
Their sound captures the essence of the past while incorporating modern influences, resulting in a style that feels timeless yet contemporary.
