Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in November 1995, Aaron Fross grew up steeped in music and folklore. As the granddaughter of Jonas Trinkūnas, founder of Lithuania’s largest pagan community, Fross’s childhood was filled with folk songs and fairy tales, setting the foundation for her artistic vision.
Her latest single, “Cherry Blossom“, marks a return to her roots after a four-year hiatus, blending her heritage with modern influences like Enya, Sia, and Massive Attack.
Fross’ journey to “Cherry Blossom” has been one of exploration and transformation. After completing ten years of rigorous music education in Lithuania, she realised her creative vision lay beyond traditional academia. This realisation led her to London in 2014.
Over the years, she’s collaborated with bands such as Kulgrinda, her family’s folk ensemble, and acoustic duo Double Aces, before deciding to pursue a solo career that would fully reflect her artistic ambitions.
Her solo journey took a brief pause while she joined neo-folk duo Yorige and toured Europe as a lead soloist in the Lord of the Rings orchestra concerts. These experiences left a profound impact on her, especially the elegance and emotional depth of classical music, which subtly informs her latest work.
“Cherry Blossom”, recorded in London with producer Nix Bakx, is a poignant piano piece that showcases Fross’s ability to channel emotions through minimalism. The song reflects on the impermanence of beauty, drawing parallels to the nature of cherry blossoms. Inspired by personal experiences and her love for art, Fross describes the track as a “bittersweet eulogy” for moments lost to time.
The single is a climax of years of introspection and creativity. Initially composed eight years ago as a six-minute piece, “Cherry Blossom” has been distilled into a piece of simplicity. Fross hints at releasing the full version in the future, but for now, this version captures her message of finding beauty in impermanence.
Having performed in iconic London venues like Dingwalls and the Jazz Café and appeared on Lithuanian national TV and radio, Fross continues to make her mark as an artist who transcends genres and borders. “We are a part of nature, and nature is a constant creation,” she reflects—a philosophy that resonates deeply in her music. With “Cherry Blossom,” Aaron Fross reaffirms her place as a compelling voice in contemporary music.
