Bestival curator Rob Da Bank has announced that his award-winning festival will be travelling to North America this year. One week after revealing another stellar line up for this year’s Isle of White extravaganza, Bestival has announced that it will also be staged on Hanlan’s Point Beach, Toronto for its inaugural international year, on the 12th and 13th of June.
The Radio 1 DJ said in a statement: “We have waited 12 years to decide to launch another Bestival outside of the UK and our beloved Bestival, on the Isle of Wight, which has grown into one of the most important festivals in the global calendar. It took a really special city, and an even more exciting site, with Toronto and Toronto Island, to make us take the leap. So, the waiting is over and we are so excited to be launching in North America in June, with a classic Bestival line-up waiting to thrill, intrigue and party! I’d like to thank all our partners, friends, new and old, and supporters in Toronto, for making this happen. We cannot wait”.
The Bestival experience has come a long way in twelve years, from beginning as a Glastonbury Sunday Best Tent and debuting at Robin Hill to an audience of 4,000 people in 2004, it is now widely considered to be one of the best festivals in the UK. The Canadian version will be staged by SFX Entertainment and Embrace, in conjunction with Bestival. Da Bank has promised that the festival will contain the same diverse and authentic line up as its UK sister, with an eclectic addition of Canadian sounds.
