Cate Blanchett is rumoured to be playing comedy heroine Lucille Ball in an as yet untitled biopic. The film, that will be written by The Social Network and Steve Jobs scriptwriter Aaron Sorkin, will document Ball’s 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, who starred as Lucille’s husband in their hit show I Love Lucy.
Lucille Ball won the hearts of millions through her performance in the beloved sitcom I Love Lucy and became the first woman to head a major studio Desilu Productions. The film has been given the green light by Lucille’s children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr, who are signed on as producers in the film.
Blanchett is no stranger to biopics, remember how she nailed Katharine Hepburn’s iconic accent in her Oscar winning performance in The Aviator and even managed to pull off a convincing Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes’ 2007 film I’m Not There. She is yet to comment on her involvement in the film but her husband, the theatre director Andrew Upton, stated at a theatre event in Sydney ‘it’s a project that is dear to (Cate’s) heart and a great story to tell.” This will certainly be one to look out for!
