Scarlet Witch has been notable in her absence from much of the pre-released concept art showing how Marvel’s cinematic Avengers will be divided in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Speaking with Premiere.fr, Elizabeth Olsen’s seemingly reveals that the mystic powered heroine doesn’t side with either Captain America nor IronMan, explaining rather that “you never know if she’s a hero or a villain, and that’s a very fun part”.
With Olsen’s character siding with the murderous Ultron for a majority of Avengers 2, the prospect that Scarlet Witch may turn her back on her new team is consistent with the character’s comic book origins, which often has portrayed Wanda Maximoff as an ambiguous character often ruled by her immense power rather than her moral code.“She’s someone who’s more powerful than she’s able to control, and she ends up going insane because of it”, confirms Olsen. Indicating that Scarlet Witch’s destructive power may serve to alienate her from the rest of The Avengers in Civil War.
Besides her own character, Olsen also indicated that she was “very excited” for Civil War, particularly praising Daniel Brühl as an “incredibly actor”, who was confirmed back in April to be playing the villain Baron Zemo in the movie. On the tone of Civil War, Olsen also mentioned that “It’s a movie about people as opposed to robots this time. So it’s darker and it’s allowed to be darker, because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines”.
Suggesting that the film will get into the politics of what has driven the two figureheads of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers apart and moralities of war. It seems that The Avengers are in for a rough-ride when the film opens on April 29, 2016 in the UK and May 6, 2016 in the US.
