In a recent interview with DIY, Jamie Hewlett confirms the renowned English virtual band Gorillaz are at it again as they begin writing music for 2016. Comic book artist Hewlett claims he has been trying to find time to recommence the songwriting magic.
Commenting on the music update, he says: “I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well. I’m very excited. I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation. What I try not to do when I’m working in this creative period, the cooking of the mess, is go to other peoples’ exhibitions and look at other peoples’ work. I close my eyes, and don’t want to know what anyone else is doing. Doing that has kind of ruined the creative process for me in the past, and I don’t want to let that happen again“.
Hewlett is currently very busy working on his up-coming exhibition ‘The Suggestionists’ appearing at his first art exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London next month. It has been 5 years since the band were writing material for album Plastic Beach, but that does not mean vocalist Damon Albarn has gone into hiding. Quite the opposite as he released his critically acclaimed solo album Every Day Robots last year, as well taking a central role in Blur‘s re-emergence, releasing their 8th album earlier this year. He must be knackered!
