The filmmakers behind the tragic and intimate story of Amy Winehouse have been given the go-ahead and handed the tools to craft the new Oasis documentary. Director Mat Whitecross will be joined by Amy director, Asif Kapadia, who will take the role of executive producer, and James Gay Rees, who will produce the upcoming untitled film.
The film company Independent, who are in charge of developing, financing and producing the film will be sending candidates to officially announce the project at the American Film Market, which takes place from November 4 – 11. Independent’s managing director, Andrew Orr asserts his confidence that this epic story has been placed in good hands.
He told Screen Daily: “Oasis are without doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70 million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era. At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock ‘n’ roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat’s sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock ’n’ roll bands“.
