It’s the holiday season. I don’t know about you guys, but I love watching Christmas films, for like the whole month. I heard a few months ago about the film Christmas With The Coopers and was really impressed with the casting for this one: Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Alex Borstein, Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Seyfried, Alan Arkin, Marisa Tomei, Olivia Wilde, Jake Lacy, June Squibb, Anthony Mackie. I can’t lie, I have a soft spot for Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde and Marisa Tomei and I would watch anything featuring these actresses. But all these actors I just mentioned are great and are charismatic in their roles.
What is great about Christmas With The Coopers is the fact that it doesn’t present an ideal Christmas gathering. It rather focuses on dysfunctional families and how they cope with the holidays. It’s a dramady in which Diane Keaton and John Goodman play a very believable couple whose kids and grandkids are all slightly unconventional. I was overjoyed to hear the voice of Steve Martin, who narrates the film through the eyes of the family dog.
For me the standout role is played by Olivia Wilde. I don’t wait to spoil it for you guys, but her character is very interesting and she portrays a quite complicated woman. I wished Amanda Seyfried had more lines as she has proved in many films she is more than just pretty. Christmas With The Coopers is not an extraordinary movie, but one that will make you appreciate the loved ones, tell them how much you care about them and just live in the moment. I feel the director of the film, Jessie Nelson could have worked more to develop certain moments and characters. Christmas With The Coopers is out in the cinemas everywhere!
