From the look of the new X-Men: Apocalypse teaser trailer, we can determine 1 of 2 things: that everyone’s favourite band of mutants will face their deadliest adversary yet, scarring them forever; or that Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters needs a clean. That’s the problem with teaser trailers, they never actually tell anyone anything. Yet people obsess over them and read into them endlessly, because they herald the arrival of the film’s they promote; meaning that fans have finite amount of time in which to suss out the plot before they go and see the film.
What we do know about X-Men: Apocalypse is this: it is set in the 1980s. Xavier is continuing to search for his gifted youngsters (which now include adolescent versions of Nightcrawler, Cyclops and Jean Grey) while Magneto is living the peaceful life in Poland until he is recruited by new enemy Apocalypse, a god-like being who has awoken from a sleep that has lasted millennia and decided that the 1980s would be a perfect time to seize power (probably for the best).
Aligned with Apocalypse are adolescents Storm, Angel and Psylocke; 3 incredibly powerful and confused mutants (understandable, they’re teenagers). With the fate of the world once more hanging in the balance, the X-Men must unite to defeat the threat of Apocalypse. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will return in their respective roles as Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Beast.
They will also be joined by newcomers Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Apocalypse, Jean Grey and Nightcrawler. It has been announced that a teaser trailer for the film will be released tomorrow, which should help keep fans preoccupied until the film’s release on May 19, 2016.
