Director Bryan Singer is taking a break from everything X-Men, revealing his intention to direct an adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic science fiction novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Now that dream has come to fruition with 20th Century Fox signing on to produce his deep sea adventure, with the ship moving full sail towards a fall production as Singer directs and produces alongside Jason Taylor.
The idea is not an old one, David Fincher trying it with Disney before scrapping it over arguments who to cast, moving onto Gone Girl. Singer announced his intention last September to direct with a screenplay written by Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney.
Singer commented on the movie to deadline, explaining his passion for Verne’s novels, but also reveals differences from the original: “[The film] contains not only the original characters of Captain Nemo, Ned Land and Professor Aronnax, but also some new and original characters and sci-fi plot twists culminating in a timeless adventure for all ages”.
