It’s nice to have Craig David back, it’s even better seeing him cover Jack Garrett’s “Breathe Life” thanks to The REDO, a project by Beats By Dr, Dre. The cover was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show where Craig told Zane:
“I’ve got mad love for Jack, when you find an artist who is producing, playing, writing and can sing – there’s not many of them who can pull that off. I was a fan from the off. When I heard that song in particular I really like the way it was futuristic on the production but melodically and lyrically it was really deep with where he was going. I was like man, I need to flip this a little bit, I might have to get in there and do a little something”.
Yet again Craig does what he does well, fusing mainstream with underground, his cover is a sublime mixture of jungle, R&B and soul. He definitely puts a different spin on that gift of a electronic ballad from Jack.
