Over the past decade, film studios have reevaluated their approach to fairy tales. Far from being the light animations that featured prominently in our childhoods, this new breed of live action fairy tales are darker with a lot more violence. Such is the approach taken by The Huntsman: Winter’s War; a story which tells the origins of Snow White through the eyes of Chris Hemsworth‘s Huntsman.
Although there are more trailers in circulation on the Internet, a new one which focuses on Hemsworth’s hero and the basis of the narrative has been released by Universal Pictures.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War is a prequel to 2012’s Snow White And The Huntsman, rewinding back to a time when Queen Ravenna betrays her sister, Freya, by killing her newborn child. Consumed with rage, Freya unlocks her ice powers and declares war against her sister; this encourages the Huntsman to act as her army.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War stars Chris Hemsworth as Eric the Huntsman, Jessica Chastain as his warrior wife Sara, Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna, and Emily Blunt as Freya. It reaches cinemas on April 4, and you can watch the new trailer below:
