Could we be witnessing the birth of yet another shared universe franchise? Having released Snow White and the Huntsman in 2012, and with the release of The Huntsman: Winter’s War looming, details are now emerging of talks to bring Snow White‘s lesser-known sister to the big screen: Rose Red.
You’re forgiven if you never knew about Snow White’s long lost sister; although she appears in the tale written by the Brothers Grimm she hasn’t proved to be as transferable as her big sister and hasn’t appeared in any other Snow White-related media.
Disney are the masterminds behind this move. Having already begun wading back into fairy tale lore with a revisionist agenda, they have recruited the writer of Snow White and the Huntsman, Evan Dougherty, to pen the screenplay and Tripp Vinson to produce the picture.
It will now head into the development pool but don’t expect it to be emerging any time soon as Vinson also has a couple of other dark fantasy flicks primed and ready for Disney. To catch up with the latest exploits of Chris Hemsworth‘s Huntsman, The Huntsman: Winter’s War arrives in U.K. cinemas April 22.
