Nicolas Winding Refn‘s latest, which will make its debut at Cannes, stars Elle Fanning as a young woman who tries to break into the world of high fashion. The cast also includes Christina Hendricks, Bella Heathcote, Jena Malone and Keanu Reeves.
The sleek trailer opens up with a few glimpses into Jesse’s (Fanning) old life before she arrives in Los Angeles, where she catches the eye of Jan (Hendricks), who is certain that she has what it takes to steal the spotlight. She soon makes her first steps on the podium and soon finds herself in a precarious situation where your friends can turn into foes within moments.
As the trailer progresses so does the tension, in a manner highly reminiscent of Black Swan, making it clear that living out your dream comes at a high cost. However, it also seems to suggest that Jesse is also willing to go far and wide to achieve her goal.
The Neon Demon, much like Only God Forgives, looks highly stylized and visually comes close to what you would expect from a Tyler Shields photoshoot. The script, which has been penned by Refn, Mary Laws and Polly Stenham, is described as ‘a crossover between Valley Of The Dolls and Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘.
