Forget Milan and Paris because there is another rising fashion show which is attracting more and more attention worldwide, the Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023.
Even if this event is the youngest one on the calendar, the power leading it to gain global importance is how Scandinavian style reflects modern needs, like sustainability, minimalism, and genderless clothing.
Cecile Thorsmark, the fashion week CEO, in an interview with Vogue, claimed that “there was so much to celebrate this season. From our partnership with the Swedish Fashion Council to nurture and promote all the talent from our region to our Zalando Sustainability Award once more reminding us how important it is to uplift designers that are exploring fashion with a future mindset”.
The Scandinavian event, which took place on “Freedom Day” with all Covid restrictions being lifted, invested a lot in communication and marketing strategies.
In addition to the 21 live showcases, Copenhagen Fashion Week took advantage of two digital screening events, seven digital premieres, and the enormous use of TikTok and influencers to promote and communicate with fans at home.
Among the designers that participated in this year’s fashion week, a big absence was Ganni, However, this allowed emerging talents to have more space to showcase their masterpieces.
Among the names that, for The Guardian, are “making headlines at this year’s event” stand out Rabens Saloner, which blends rainbow colours and wardrobe classics in a Scandi minimalistic way, and P.L.N.’s European punk culture concerning workwear and the 90s American rave scene.
But also Rotate, with its size-inclusive casting (including a pregnant model) and pop colour dresses, Jade Cropper’s new vanguard of Scandi style, and Helmstedt’s immersion into a charming pastel fairytale world.
The world is looking with increasing curiosity and expectation at the Copenhagen Fashion Week, a new reality aiming to inspire the fashion industry, creating a better and more sustainable future for everyone.
