After months of anticipation, Jennifer Saunders has finally provided a release date for the film adaption of Absolutely Fabulous (fashionably late, of course). Absolutely Fabulous graced British television from 1992 until 2003, but returned for specials in 2011 and 2012; the latter in celebration of the London Olympics. The outrageous Patsy and Eddy, played respectively by Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, will be returning in style to the big screen on July 1, 2016, when they flee to the French Riviera penniless after getting caught up in a media storm.
It has previously been reported that the original cast shall reassemble for film. June Whitfield, Julia Sawalha, Jane Horrocks and Kathy Bates all return in their roles as Eddy’s mother, Saffy, Bubble and Magda. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie also boasts more celebrity appearances than the Academy Awards, with the likes of Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne, Rylan Clark, Joan Collins, Lulu, Jerry Hall and Jean Paul Gaultier all due to appear. Although film adaptions of beloved sitcoms rarely turn out well, we shall all be hoping that Saunders’ script and the legion of talent she has will bring us back to the golden years of Britain’s haute couture gurus.
