Aesop Rock has announced a new run of tour dates (see below video) across North America in support of his acclaimed new album, The Impossible Kid. He will be joined by Rob Sonic, DJ Zone and Homeboy Sandman. This arrives in conjunction with a new Rob Shaw-directed video for album standout, “Shrunk”.
“Shrunk” has moody, cyclical bass punctuated by tight snare work on the drums. There are brief pauses to add to the ambience, before a drum roll heralds another word-packed verse. In terms of the delivery you could perhaps argue he, Wax and Mr. Lif have much in common, rapping wise.
The video veers from humdrum real life, to complete immersion in oldschool video game arcades. Or, judging by the visuals, perhaps the games, to some extent, imitate the trials and tribulations of real life? Anyway, you do also see him rap to the camera, and every word urged forth from the mouth is spat with sizeable passion.
