ALA.NI’s “Cherry Blossom” is sensual, mesmerizing, saddening and healing. Don’t listen to it while operating heavy machinery. The new self-directed video for this record illustrates a love captured in time, it shows the singer half hidden by cherry blossom and summer skies. The vocals strongly reference 1950’s love ballads, a style which allows the lyrics to breathe. ALA.NI explained the song in poetic form: “My love for you was sprung in Spring // And flourished in the Summer Sun // Autumn killed the fresh green leaves // By Winter all was said and done”.
Having worked as the backing singer for Damon Albarn and Mary J. Blige, this London-based singer, songwriter, video maker and producer is now on the path to serious musical artisanship. “Cherry Blossom” forms part of ALA.NI’s forthcoming EP release entitled You & I – Spring. The EP aims, in enchanting fashion, to be a storyboard of unfulfilled love.
