WWD confirmed yesterday (July 29) the departure of Alexander Wang from Balenciaga. After a month of surrounding rumors, and two and a half years together along with 15 collections, the designer is leaving the brand.
Wang will still be showing his last collection for Balenciaga during Paris Fashion Week this September, but the house is already looking for his successor, Kering, owner of the luxury brand, shared to Women’s Wear Daily, that they are open to considering hidden talent and a lesser known name for the brand. Rumor has it, Simon Porter Jacquemous, a representative for the Parisian designer, is a name that’s already mention, but there’s still not a lot to confirm.
It’s kind of mysterious this is happening as Wang’s brand 10th anniversary is coming up and he is celebrating it by summarizing his most iconic pieces and of course, there’s a possibility he wants to focus on his own work. We can’t deny his talent, so it’s completely understandable he wants to continue working on creating his own name.
