YA novels and their adaptations have taught a generation of teens to fight, to do anything they can to get what they want and need. Thinking about the March For Our Lives right now, they are already doing what their favourite heroes did. Now a new book adaption has released a trailer; The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken seems to be coming right at the perfect moment.
The storyline can be explained pretty quick: A plague has killed nearly all children. The few that have survived have developed superhuman abilities. The adults are more than afraid so they lock them up in camps, divide them in categories regarding their abilities. One group of kids don’t want to be locked away so they break out to find a place where they can live in freedom.
Amandla Stenberg portrays Ruby, a 16-year-old teen that has the ability to control peoples mind. She isn’t new to the YA genre as she already had her part in The Hunger Games and Everything, Everything. Joining her in the cast are Harris Dickinson, Skylan Brooks, and Miya Cech. Mandy Moore and Gwendoline Christie will also play their part. The film premieres on August 3.
