The Grand National is a great sporting event in the annual calendar but it also holds some importance for fashion. Ladies Day at the Grand National is equally about the attire as it is about the horses and their satin shirted jockeys. The idea of wearing high end clothes and sharp heels to a muddy racecourse may seem bizarre, but as is tradition, hundreds of women (and men) turned out at Aintree for a black tie extravaganza.
Amongst the menagerie of exotic fascinators, feathers and hats, a short list of ladies were selected to compete in the Style Awards. The judging panel consisted of grand national style ambassador: Alex Longmore, singer: Laura Wright, Creative Directer Jayne Littler and PR and Marketing coordinater at John Lewis: Faye Mines.
The lucky winner was crowned Anna Gilderoy from Durham, who was visiting Aintree for the first time to celebrate her 25th birthday. She wore a cream and gilt skater dress by Chi Chi London available from Asos at £70. The fashionista was treated to a £45,000 prize package, just some of the prizes included the Range Rover Evoque, £2,000 giftcard from Liverpool ONE, a makeover every month for a year at Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols, along with a year’s worth of lingerie from Ann Summers.
Judge Faye Mines in an interview with ITV said: “Anna really stood out to us this year. She really incorporated the season’s key trends and most importantly, had fun with it. She looks fabulous and we were really impressed by the complete look. So many of today’s racegoers looked amazing. It’s been a real pleasure to select this year’s Style Award winner”.
