Since 1988, Anna Wintour has held American Vogue in such high prestige, and throughout her career as the most powerful editor in the world, she has backed some of the most inspiring designers of this generation. Of course, there was nobody else who could have presented Anna Wintour, OBE, with this award at the recent British Fashion Awards ceremony other than John Galliano. He spoke of how during his departure from Dior back in 2011, and at times he felt outcast from the industry, it was Anna who had reached out to him and mentored him.
Ahead of his Maison Martin Margiela debut as Creative Director, it was only fitting that Lady Wintour was wearing the most beautiful vintage Galliano gown as she gave an emotional acceptance speech. Touching on the importance of fashion’s power “to do good in the world”, thanking her children and even tearing up at one point, we can’t think of anybody else more deserved of this prestigious award.
