Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie Adenuga are the three faces behind Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio station, but the radio station is ramping up its celebrity presenter offering with a string of new hosts revealed for the service, including artists and music journalists, while shows hosted by Dr. Dre and Pharrell debuted over the weekend.
On Friday it was announced that duo Run The Jewels and indie label Soulection will be presenting their own shows, while Rebel Sound have also been given a fortnightly two-hour slot.
Rebel Sound, comprised of Shy FX, Chase and Status and MC Rage and David Rodigan, will present new music, “huge exclusives” and music that influenced their work.
Dr Dre’s much anticipated show was officially announced as ‘The Pharmacy’ on Friday and premiered on Saturday July 4, with support from Eddie Francis, DJ Pooh and Wyann Vaughn. Other Beats 1 celebrity presenters include Drake, who endorsed Apple Music on stage at its launch event, and Pharrell Williams, who premiered his show ‘Othertone’ with music supervisor Scott Vener on Sunday, featuring Justin Timberlake and Cara Delevigne as surprise guests. Josh Homme, Q-Tip, Disclosure, Elton John and St. Vincent have also presented shows on the 24/7 radio service.
