Canadian rock band Arcade Fire have returned back to the album which made them come to prominence in 2004, the critically acclaimed Funeral. They are revisiting the seminal albumon occasion of its 15th anniversary. The latest plans for the project are to re-issue their first single and modern classic “Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)” as a vinyl release.
As the project has been planned, on the A-side of the vinyl, there will be their debut single and on the B-side, there will be the song “My Buddy” performed by The Alvino Rey Orchestra.
Win Butler, one of the co-founder of the band has explained: “This seven-inch was prepared in the months leading up to the release of ‘Funeral’. The B-side is a song performed by Alvino Rey, me and Will’s grandfather. This song was played at his funeral, and was part of the inspiration of naming the record ‘Funeral’. It’s one of the first uses of a primitive vocoder called a Sonovox and was recorded live“.
It is a special way to remember the album which made them famous. Indeed, it was defined at the time as “brave, empowering, and dusted with something that many of the indie-rock genre’s more contrived acts desperately lack: an element of real danger“, by AllMusic reviewer James Christopher Monger.
The new vinyl will be released on November 29.
