Last Sunday (15th of May) saw the start of Australia’s Fashion Week held in Sydney. The show usually takes place in April, but has been changed to May to fit with international seasons and to accommodate resort wear.
The week was kicked off by Toni Maticevski, a designer who’s continuing to become a big name in the local and international fashion industry. Maticevski displayed garments which sported airy, floaty cuts and interesting hem lines. The collection, named Resort 17, involved bejeweled handcuffs and shackles in a controversial “bondage chic” style created by Ryan Stoner.
There has been more focus on Australian fashion, and this is the first time the event will lead in the international circuit which already encompasses London, Paris, Milan, and New York.
With the world watching Sydney this week, it will be interesting to see which trends will be influencing this season.
