Its been seven years since the release of James Cameron‘s box-office smash hit Avatar and the director feels it’s about time for a sequel (or three). Cameron has already revealed some production details in an interview, stating:
“We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It’s been about a two-year task. (We’ve finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done”. The new sequence of films will also reportedly be a “meta-narrative” meaning “Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story”.
So far, the new film will see the return of Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington in their respective roles as Neytiri and Jake Sully, but could also bring back Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) and Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) although they died in the original movie.
Avatar 2 is slated for release in 2017 and will precede Avatar’s 3 and 4, which so far are targeted to hit cinemas in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
