London-based singer, songwriter and musician Azu Yeché returns in 2017 with long term collaborator and producer Tony White (Zero 7) to debut “Plastic Life” – his brand new single and the title track from his forthcoming sophomore EP, which will be released in April via Farmhouse Records.
On “Plastic Life”, Azu Yeché sings beautifully about finding the courage to speak your mind, and not live in crippling silence. The record is backed by lush guitar arrangements and glorious backing vocal harmonies, over which Yeché delivers a memorable and emotionally resonant opus.
Known for his distinctive singing voice, compelling song-writing and glorious live music experiences, Azu Yeché’s special fusion of pop, soul and folk music has seen the British Nigerian musician being championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1, SoulBounce, London Live, BBC Introducing and the MOBO Awards in recent years.
Speaking about the inspiration for “Plastic Life” and how the record came about, Azu Yeché says the single “is about speaking one’s mind after a prolonged period of holding back. It is that moment where you have to speak your mind and trust that the relationship can handle it”.
Azu Yeché added that, “I was also inspired by the fact that the current state of the world is being reflected in some of the best soulful music of recent times, so on the one hand, this song speaks about my personal relationship and on the other hand, it speaks about the frustrating times we are currently experiencing politically”.
