He has dressed the greatest celebrities in the world, but now Olivier Rousteing – Balmain’s creative director – will use his creativity for a total different project.
He was asked to design costumes for ballet dancers, who will take part in Renaissance, a four-piece ballet performed by up-and-coming ballet dancers.
Sébastien Bertaud – choreographer and dancer – asked the designer to create costumes for his latest creation, which will be staged from 13 to 18 June at Opéra nationale de Paris.
“To be honest, I was really surprised and moved because, for me, this goes beyond designing clothes for the opera. This project really represents French heritage. Obviously I love the world of pop, but for me, it all goes back to classical dance. I’ve been fascinated with it since I was a child”, said Rousteing.
On Instagram, he shared some of his drafts, which will feature silver and gold embellishments, rhinestones and pearls embroidered onto bodysuits, tights, and draped shirts. Spencer coats, cardigans, and fringe skirts are also included in the costumes.
