Colman Domingo has joined Barry Jenkins’ drama If Beale Street Could Talk, adding to the already announced cast of Regina King, Stephan James, and KiKi Layne.
Adapted from the 1974 James Baldwin novel of the same name, If Beale Street Could Talk tells the tale of a pregnant Harlem woman, Tish, who despite being newly engaged to lover James, is forced to prove false the accusations of rape held against him. Domingo is set to play the “fiercely loving father [of Tish] who makes his daughter’s crusade his own“.
Jenkins’ first film since Moonlight won the best picture Academy Award, the project has great promise for all involved. Domingo has involved himself in a series of great films, including Birth of a Nation, Selma, and Lincoln. Someone likes period dramas.
Filming is currently underway in New York.
