The Beach Boys‘ masterpiece “God Only Knows” has been remade with the help of a star studded cast to mark the launch of BBC Music. The BBC describes the launch as “an ambitious wave of new program, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that amount to the BBC’s strongest commitment to music in 30 years”. Similarly to the release of “Perfect Day” 17 years ago, the track is to raise money for BBC’s Children in Need appeal.
Contributing to Brian Wilson’s timeless classic, were Sir Elton John, One Direction, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Jake Bugg, Lorde, Emeli Sandé, Chris Martin, Kylie Minogue, Paloma Faith, Sam Smith, Florence Welch, Chrissie Hynde, Brian May, Dave Grohl, Alison Balsom, Martin James Bartlett, Danielle de Niese, Nicola Benedetti, Eliza Carthy, Baaba Maal, Jamie Cullum, Jaz Dhami, as well as the BBC’s Zane Lowe, Lauren Laverne, Katie Derham, Gareth Malone and Jools Holland, accompanied by the Tees Valley Youth Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Brain Wilson declared his delight with the record stating that, “all of the artists did such a beautiful job, I can’t thank them enough“. Listen to the remake of the Beach Boys’ classic song below.
