After being a delightful surprise in Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck has banished all doubts about his ability to play the Dark Knight, and the memory of Daredevil, from the minds of superhero fans. Although we’ve known for some time that Batman would be getting a solo outing, Warner Bros. have only today made it official. Surprise.
Warner Bros. have also confirmed that Ben Affleck will not only star in the film but he will also direct the Caped Crusader’s first solo DCEU outing, confirming rumours that first began to surface at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
As for what the film’s plot will entail, we’re still very much in the dark. Is it possible that Jared Leto‘s Joker will be the first villain to make an appearance? That may depend on the reception he receives in Suicide Squad in August; living up to Heath Ledger will be no easy task.
Another question to ponder is when this film will take place. Batman v Superman featured an older Batman in his mid-40s; could Affleck’s solo film be set before the events of that film? It is all speculation for the moment, but we have plenty of DC action to divert our attention for the moment.
Besides Suicide Squad coming out August 5, Zach Snyder is hard at work on the first of two Justice League films. The solo Batman film could potentially see an October 5, 2018 or a November 1, 2019 release.
