American record producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Benny Blanco has teamed up with Juice WRLD and Brendon Urie for a new single titled “Roses”, which has dropped on December 5.
The instrumentation is bass-heavy and deals with a heartbreak, a common theme used in Juice WRLD’s music, like his previous debut track “Lucid Dreams”.
“Roses are red, violets are blue, my heart is dead, I’m such a fool. Why did I fall for you? I gave it all for you”, the hip-hop artist sings.
During a recent interview with XXL, Juice has explained the intentions behind his music: “It just kinda pushes me to create somewhat of a lesson out of the shit I’m saying. Or at least, even if I’m talking about something that’s negative, I look at it as putting my mistakes out there for people to learn from it”.
One could therefore classify the song into the “emo” theme. Blanco had touched on teaming up with the artists to Zane Lowe on Beats 1: “How has no one put together the emo dudes with the emo rappers? How has that not happened? Why is no one doing this? Am I the only guy who’s thinking this?”.
Prior to “Roses”, pop and electronica artist Blanco had collaborated with Halsey and Khalid for “Eastside”, “I Found You” with Calvin Harris, and Jesse and Swae Lee for the single “Better to Lie”. Blanco plans on working with Halsey on her forthcoming project and releasing a track each week.
