Singer-songwriter Namywa, 27, has released her debut single “Sold”, a heart-throb ballad which explores love, heartbreak and self-worth. “Sold” is a perfect blend of R&B, Soul, Jazz and Pop, and in combination with Namywa’s powerful vocals and raw lyrics, exposes all the emotions one goes through after a break-up.
The new single is part of Namywe’s debut EP Post Traumatic Wisdom which unveils her own experience of being “kicked to the curb” after being cheated on by her fiancé. “I was mocked, betrayed, lied to and embarrassed in front of everyone we knew,” Namywe reveals.
After the break-up, Namywe spent six months in a depressive state until she was finally able to pick up her pen and start writing again. When she did, songs poured out of her heart, and she created an EP which explores the seven stages of grief and heartbreak that she had gone through.
Hailing from the West Midlands, Namywa has received widespread popularity over the last few years. Not only has she played countless gigs with her band around Birmingham, but the singer has supported artists such as Paloma Faith, Lola Young and UB40 in concert.
The highlight of her career came in 2020, when she was nominated for ‘Best Solo Female’ at the Birmingham Music Awards, the same category as Lady Leshurr and Ruby Turner.
Outside of music, Namywe has created her own business Girl Grind UK, and is going to star in the new BBC 2 show We Are Black and British which airs this Wednesday at 9pm.
