Fast-rising Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Idahams is eager to return in 2023 with the brand-new single “Wetin No Good” on Grafton Records following the success of his highly praised first album Truth, Love & Confessions, which had over six million listens online.
Idahams, who is from Bonny Island in Nigeria’s River State, is quickly becoming one of the most exciting new voices in afropop music on the international scene. Her accomplishments include two critically acclaimed albums released in the past two years, more than 50 million streams, and four top 10 singles on Music Week’s UK Black Music Chart.
His afropop music is fueled by percussion-heavy rhythms and highlife music sensibilities, drawing inspiration from the rich culture and native sounds of his hometown.
The catchy pop song “Wetin No Good” was produced with longstanding partner Yussy Beatz (Adekunle Gold, Yemi Alade). It successfully combines afrobeats with amapiano. The track features Idahams in top form, bringing his mesmerising vocal delivery, beautiful melodic arrangements, and great griotic songwriting about love, sex, and relationships to the fore. It is sonically supported by wonderful drum patterns and a thundering bassline.
Idahams says of the inspiration for this single, “This is one of the first songs I recorded this year, and I believe this song can be a global hit for Africa because of the glorious afrobeats and amapiano fusion that gives it an appeal that cuts across — I hope listeners can feel the song from the first vocal and get excited about Wetin No Good”
Idahams, who didn’t want to stop after last year’s victory, is someone to watch in 2023.
