British singer-songwriter Pete Molinari, whose talent has been praised by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, has unveiled his new single “Careless Heart“.
The song encapsulates a distinct rhythm echoing the heartbeats of Rome’s historic Cinecittà studios, reminiscent of music that once intertwined seamlessly with poetry, and is taken from his upcoming sixth studio album, Wondrous Afternoon.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Molinari says, “You know when you write something and it’s effortless & has something cool about it with so much ease. It kind of writes itself. This ‘Careless Heart’ was one of those. I felt it had a little bit of Bacharach about it to begin with, and I guess kind of tribute to him in some way. Luca retained the classic elements I love but also added something fresh, new and groovier“.
Having gained momentum as an artist by working with other established acts in the London live scene, Molinari soon became recognized for his ability to effortlessly weave soul, folk, blues, and country into his tracks. The latest single exemplifies this talent; it speaks to the easiness of its own creation, reflecting a reminiscent touch of Burt Bacharach’s genius.
Molinari’s journey in music began long before his current ventures. From busking with just a guitar and harmonica in New York’s Greenwich Village, he embarked on a personal pilgrimage across the U.S., deeply influenced by his myriad musical and artistic heroes.
While he can be described as a contemporary artist, Molinari’s approach to songwriting leans heavily into the analog. He eschews modern gadgets for traditional tools like typewriters and record players.
After returning to New York a decade after his Greenwich Village days, Molinari was spotted by renowned songwriter Linda Perry. Drawn to his unique style and prolific talent, Perry saw potential for Molinari’s breakout in the American market.
Collaborations with legends like Mitchell Froom and Lenny Waronker ensued, leading to the recording of his fifth album, Just Like Achilles. The album, filled with rich collaborations, was set for a grand unveiling in 2020. However, like countless other endeavors during the year, the pandemic halted its momentum.
Fast forward to today, a reimagined version of “Just Like Achilles” found its home with Blind Faith Records, based in Rome. It was the same label that Molinari chose to partner with for his upcoming sixth studio album, Wondrous Afternoon.
Molinari’s trajectory showcases the cyclical nature of artistry – from the raw beginnings in Greenwich, the glittering anticipation in LA, to finding the rhythmic soul of Rome. It’s a testament to his unwavering dedication to music, no matter where the journey leads.
