Caplin & Massiah Return With Emotionally Charged Dancehall Anthem ‘Shaped Like You’

Renowned musical duo Caplin & Massiah are back with their second single, “Shaped Like You”, released on November 29th. The track seamlessly combines dancehall-inspired rhythms with deeply emotive lyrics, offering a unique blend of vibrant energy and heartfelt introspection. Known for their genre-defying creativity, the duo has once again demonstrated their ability to craft music that resonates on both a sonic and emotional level.

At its core, Shaped Like You explores the theme of heartbreak, reimagined as a high-energy dance track. The song’s origins lie in a deeply personal moment for Zeeteah Massiah, who drew inspiration from a challenging time in her relationship with her daughter.

Initially conceived as a reggae track titled “Baby Girl,” the song featured a poignant chorus – “Everybody sees this hole in my heart, and everybody knows it’s shaped like you.” The duo later reworked the song, transforming it into a narrative about the end of a romantic relationship. This evolution highlights Caplin & Massiah’s ability to take personal experiences and craft them into universally relatable art.

Musically, Shaped Like You exemplifies Caplin & Massiah’s signature style, a masterful fusion of dancehall, pop, and soul. Zeeteah’s rich and soulful vocals, honed through collaborations with legends like Tom Jones and Sting, shine against the backdrop of Paul Caplin’s polished production.

Caplin, whose career spans from 80s pop with Haysi Fantayzee to acclaimed songwriting and production, adds a dynamic depth to the track, ensuring its place as both a dancefloor favorite and a lyrical standout.

This single also serves as a teaser for the duo’s forthcoming album, set to release in February 2025. With their ability to blend timeless influences such as Ella Fitzgerald with contemporary sounds reminiscent of Billie Eilish, Caplin & Massiah continue to push creative boundaries. Shaped Like You is a testament to their enduring artistry and ability to connect with audiences across generations.
